This Week in Mythic+, it's the Tides Emissary Beguiling rotation. This week, we're going to go over some tips for the Emissary of the Tides. The first tip is how to pull Emissary packs without getting in combat with the Emissary.
What Does Linked Mean?
Linked mobs are mobs that will always aggro together, no matter which one is pulled.
This is rather "common-sense" in WoW dungeons in that, normally, a pack of mobs standing together is linked. If you pull any of the mobs without CC'ing them, the rest of the pack will rush at you as well.
But Emissaries always pull when I hit another mob!
Correct! But that's not due to linking... but instead something called "Social Aggro", "Friendship Aggro" , "Proxy Aggro" or "Cries for Help".
What is Social Aggro?
Social Aggro is another form of mob aggro. However, this one is different because it can affect mobs that aren't directly linked to it.
Social aggro is a distance based aggro form. When a mob is pulled, in addition to pulling all linked mobs, it will also "cry for help" in a short distance around it pulling other mobs. Note that this "cry for help" only applies to the mobs that pull by players. Mobs that pull by linking will not exhibit a "cry for help". Most of the time this form of aggro won't be relevant, but it can pull things like patrols.
An example of this is the
Triturador Marea de Hierro
in Freehold patrolling into a monkey pack. If you pull a monkey, it will pull the
Triturador Marea de Hierro
as well even though they're not linked.
Social aggro can also apply to mobs that are running away. When mobs run away, they try to run to a nearby friendly and then may exhibit "social aggro" to pull them into combat as well.
All Beguiling Emissaries Aren't Linked
Because Emissaries were placed after the fact, Emissaries aren't actually linked to any mob in the dungeon. Emissaries only pull by
Social Aggro
.
This means that Emissaries will only pull if the mob that you initiate combat with is in close proximity to the Emissary itself.
No Knockback
Sometimes, the mobs are set up in a way that if you initiate combat on a certain mob, the Emissary won't pull. Here's an example from Atal'dazar.
By pulling the mob on the far left (
Guardia de honor Dazar'ai
), the social aggro is out of range of the Emissary and it doesn't pull. This week in Atal'dazar, the Enchanted Emissary is replaced by an Emissary of Tides but the strategy functions the exact same. This allows you to kick the Augur and reduce damage on your Tank.
Knockback Required
Sometimes, the Emissary of the Tides is in a location where it would always be pulled by Social Aggro. However, because knockbacks (mostly
Anillo de paz
) can be used against the Emissary of the Tides, you can knock the Emissary of the Tides to a location where it is out of range of Social Aggro. When doing this strategy, it helps to get an out of combat Crowd Control ability (e.g.
Parálisis
) before you knock, so it doesn't immediately move back in.
Here's some examples from Atal'dazar and Underrot.
The Defiler's
Maldición fulminante
cast needs to be stopped so the Tides needs to be out of the group. A rogue
Porrazo
s the Emissary, then a
Anillo de paz
is used to create distance and then the Defiler is pulled out of range of Social Aggro.
The Witch Doctors are very deadly on high keys, so you want to be able to kick their casts. By using
Anillo de paz
to knock it into one corner, and then taunting the mob on the complete opposite side, the Social Aggro doesn't hit the Emissary and it remains out of combat.
Conclusion
It's not always necessary to do this. If there's no important kicks or interrupts that are required, you can just pull the Emissary with the pack. If you do need interrupts, you're going to need to keep the Emissary out of the group. If you have a Druid or Mage you can spam Root or Polymorph once every 8 seconds, but that's a lot of GCDs that are put into nothing. Instead, just don't get into combat with it!
