Higher Rank 5 & 6 Legendaries on PTR
We have been tracking the continuing development of the PTR and how Legendary crafting works. With the latest release on the PTR, one of the final puzzles of how they will work has been released.
u/DirtyIrby talks about what he has discovered so far
This evening the PTR was updated to a new build. With this change, the optional crafting slot reagent for legendaries was unlocked. Since the recipe for Vestige of Origins was put into the game as a rep reward from Honored with Death's Advance (purchaseable from the Quartermaster), this means that
Vestige of Origins
, and the higher rank legendaries, is now craftable. Here is the result of using a Vestige of Origins on a Rank 4.
I also observed a Rank 1 legendary turn into a Rank 3 when a vestige was inserted, and others reported the same.
It seems the intention of the Vestige of Origins is to increase the rank of a legendary by +2. So a rank 4 made with a Vestige becomes a Rank 6. A rank 3 with a Vestige becomes a Rank 5 (oddly enough, an iLevel 249). A Rank 1 with a vestige becomes a Rank 3. This means that to make the new highest rank of legendaries, a crafter will need to have unlocked all the way to Rank 4.
There are still some bugs when crafting a legendary with a Vestige inserted. For one, 262 and 249 iLevels are obviously odd. Previously wowhead datamined legendaries at iLevel 250 and 260, so I’m guessing these will be adjusted. It has also been reported that the crafting UI tries to consume all Vestiges in the stack when making just a single legendary. Players are circumventing this by selling excess Vestiges to vendors and buying them back after they finish the craft.
What else do we know about legendaries in this new form? Base legendaries made with the Vestige of Origins are still tradeable. They still need
(renamed from Korthium in the previous build). The Korthite Crystals still have different quantities depending on the profession making the Vestige (a sign they have not settled on the quantity needed). Korthite is still fully tradeable on the AH.
Korthite is only confirmed as of now to be a reward from Korthia Dailies, Weeklies, and select chests found on the island.
Let me know if you have any other questions or things to test. You can also come check out my Twitch as I test goldmaking on the PTR right now:
So, now we know that it will be worthwhile to get your current XP in crafting Legendaries to at least Rank 3 if not 4 in order to be competitive in this market in 9.1. Bear in mind this is an incredibly expensive market to get into. It requires millions of gold reserves in order to fill out every Rank 4. In
alone, getting everything to Rank 4 on all professions will cost 2.7 Million Gold!
The barrier to entry is also the massive gold cost, or farming time needed in order to get rank 4 of whatever piece you wanted to use to make a 6. I know some Goblins will be rightly ecstatic if the system remains like this but I can't help but feel for the average players who just want a capped lego. The average player doesn't have a huge amount of gold, and people making these will be able to set the price as high as they want. Nor will your average player be willing (or simply have the time) to farm up the mats to catch up.
With this confirmed, for crafters who want to skill up new leggos that they can’t make today and be ready for patch 9.1 I would suggest the cheapest way to do it is taking them only to R3 for now. There will be roughly a three week period after 9.1 drops where players only have enough soul cinders for R5. Craft R5 (i.e. R3+2) during those three weeks. If you can make and sell 15 R5 in that period you will hit R4 and be ready when R6 is needed.
And players will buy R5. Players will be able to make R5 the first week and R6 the third week only if they are able to do the new Torghast Level 12 which a lot of people won’t come close to doing week 1. So R5 will sell for weeks and I predict will be a lot more profitable than R4 is these slow end-of-patch days.
has a great video summarising the points for the system as we know it and also points out areas where the system is flawed ..
It's an interesting premise, not using the optional reagent method and allowing existing base legendaries to be upgraded. A simple solution that could potentially make the system more accessible to not just those who got in early. Another option would be to cut the price of Orboreal Shard's as they contribute a great deal to the overall cost.
Botting Software Closed Down
Some important news in the fight against Bots has reached our ears thanks to contacts made by
What is Going On?
Today, Zanzarful and I heard some great news from our botter. The two major public botting software brands have been taken offline by request from Blizzard.
The two most used public botting software out there have been closed down. It has to do with the fact that Blizzard has been banning any 3rd part software it can detect the last few days. With the latest
Blizzard multi-box changes
that made all forms of command mirroring against EULA. It seems they did this to ban botters on a bigger scale more easily. This way, they can now detect unlockers and find the botter accounts.
An unlocker is software that will provide the botter with access to Blizzard's protected functions and extend the functionality in LUA software, like making the bot move.
These actions made many botters thrown their towel in the ring and will not be botting anymore. In some cases, they lost all their accounts. Some botters are now dumping their stock on the auction house for one last big sale before they leave the botting scene for good.
Keep in mind that this won’t solve the botting problem completely. The public botting software is what the majority is using, but that has now been shut down. However, private bots are still out there and will need to be reported.
Some Non-botters Got a Ban as Well
Sadly because of the recent EULA changes, this also hit non-botters.
People that play with á controller or with a disability need a tool to play to enjoy the game were banned as well
. I assume Blizzard will look into that and make the necessary changes so those people can enjoy the game again.
According to sources, this problem got solved, and the people that got banned unfairly will/are unbanned.
Owners of the Public Botting Software Knew What Was Coming
According to our source, the botting software owners knew from mid-April that this would happen sooner or later because the unlockers were detected. But, unfortunately, they did not let the community know about this, so the botters kept paying for the software. Unfortunately, now the people that paid for it won’t receive their money back.
What’s Going to Happen Now?
If most botters give up, this could mean the prices of materials and items should be rising in the upcoming month(s). Some botters are now dumping their last stock for a very low price so they can get out in time before something happens with their account(s).
We should see a lower amount, especially before Shadowlands 9.1 gets released. I recommend starting watching
The Undermine Journal
closely item and material dumps and make use of it for later.
Effect on the Token Price
We may see a gold price increase of the token price now that most botters are cashing in their gold before losing it all. However, when the dust has settled, we should see a lower wow token price.
You can find the software names that got closed down and screenshots of Discord conversations here on my
A podcast interviewing a botter recently here
The Auction House Podcast.
This is great news, how much it affects the economy moving forward will remain to be seen. My hope for the future is that those who love to farm in the game will see it as a fun and viable option again and return.
Making Gold with Mission Table
Now that we are further into the expansion and markets have settled down and covenants have been worked on in depth,
reports back that making efficient use of the mission table can be a great way to add to your gold pool..

Investments Before 9.1
asks a great question this week about what to invest in anticipation of 9.1..
I restarted WoW midway through 9.0 and am playing my first ever max level character. My guild has all quit until 9.1, so Im stuck without much to do/ bored until then and hoping to learn a little bit about goldmaking and prepare myself for the early days of the next patch.
I haven't put much effort at all into goldmaking other than running my mission table, but I have been rather lucky with BOE drops and now have ~450k gold to invest. I am trying to decide if I should invest in stacks of raid consumables, rank up my legendary crafting, or if there is some other way I can effectively use my capital while waiting for the next patch to drop.
I dont have time to stand in the auction house cancel scanning all day long as I can usually only log in for a few hours of the evening. I've got engineering and blacksmithing leveled to 100 each, but open to leveling other professions. I'm on US-Sargeras.
has a pretty comprehensive response ...
With cancel scanning being so prevalent if you cant sit on the market all day you frankly can't 'play' the AH.
The legendary crafting market is exceptionally competitive, without a second account to cancel scan I wouldn't touch it at this point.
That being said with the current implementation of Korhite ore, there will be a big barrier the first day. Having a max level alt army is going to be massively profitable in the first week as people rush rank 5's and being able to craft the legendaries as opposed to selling the korhite/vestige could be worth it.
I would assume the 10x T1/T2 you need to craft to get to T3 are dead money when considering the cost of getting set up.On the first day of 9.1 you can easily recoup that all of you can daily across 10+ toons and sell 10+ T5's.
With the new raid/m+ tier and 'death' of multiboxxing consumables have the potential to spike hard, but with the dump of materials that happened a while ago (when the new ToS were announced) there is probably many a goblin with raw mats they purchased at 60% of current market so this might not work out for you.
Augment runes have been touted as a good investment on this subreddit, but barring a nerf to the augment runes from mission tables I don't think anyone who is using augments for progress is going to be buying augments. IE every raider in our guild has 3 tables at this point with 100+ augments coming in weekly, and tables are self sustaining this tier so it's basically log in for 5 minutes an alt daily.
My current time is being spent leveling alts for mission table abuse and Korhite on 9.1 for low time investment income as I spend the majority of my time playing raiding or selling m+ carries.
Setup here is ~5 hours of leveling, 2 hours to LFR once for anima (~2k on first run-through) 1 hour in torghast cheesing all my companions. With ~40 augments/ 100 pet charms / 3.5k gold/ various raw mat caches your looking at ~20k a week per table with 5 minutes a day maintenance.
9.1 I plan on looking at the daily rewards on all 11 toons and doing all the korhite ones until that market crashes. I suspect hour 1 Korhite will likely be in the 100k area, 30k by the end of the weekend, 10k by week 2, and normalize around 2k by week 3.
has a great video going through his thoughts on what to do before 9.1...
